Design Ideas for an oversized Bedroom to make them feel cozier

While it can be a great joy to have an oversized bedroom, such room can be a huge challenge to decorate. It may be difficult give a large space the cozy feeling necessary in a bedroom. Here are some ideas to make your oversized bedroom more conducive to sleep, rest and relaxation.
Keep it simple: Just because the room is large does not mean that you need to fill it with lots of things like exercise equipment computer systems. These things do not promote rest. All you really need in your bedroom is a bed, the bigger the better. All other items are expendable.
Get it off the wall: In a very large room, there is no reason to place your bed against the wall. Put it in the center of the room facing the windows with the best view. It is preferable for the bed to be facing a direction so someone entering the room would not be able to see the bed, but only the headboard. You can add to more privacy to the bed by placing a large armoire or dresser with the back of it to the headboard. If the back of the dresser shows through the headboard, you can upholster the back of the dresser with fabric, to coordinate with the bed. Sleigh beds adapt well to this placement because they have high headboards.
Canopy beds would work as well because you can use fabric hanging from the bed poles as a screen. Folding floor screens can be placed at the head of the bed if you do not have a dresser or armoire that will fit in the space. For side tables, find pieces that look good from all sides like round tables instead of traditional nightstands. You can also choose to purchase a headboard unit designed for such a placement. Side tables are usually attached.

Break it up: Break the room into two or three zones, sleeping, lounging and dressing. Creating a sleeping area is obvious. Place the bed and side tables in one area of the room. For the lounging area, add sofas and chairs to the bedroom for an area to sit and talk, or even furnish an area where the children can feel comfortable. If you find you are sharing your bed with children, and want them to transition into their own beds, make sure that your bedroom sofa or lounge chair is comfortable. You may even want to add a day bed to your room. This way they can sleep in your room, but not in your bed.

Sauna to eliminate toxins in your body?

To understand how infrared sauna work, describe yourself in the open air on a summer day with the sun shining above. Your body feels hot sun and you become hot. Then a cloud passing, blocking the sun. The temperature outside has not changed, but you feel cooler in the shade. The Sun’s infrared rays were heating your body.

How does an infrared sauna detoxify the body?
When toxins are present in our body, the blood circulation is blocked and cellular energy is altered. The body’s immune system is inhibited, making it difficult for the body to fight the disease. When heat is applied to infrared major water molecules in our body that contain toxic gases such as sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, lead, mercury and chlorine vibrate and are broken down. The encapsulated toxic materials and gases are then released. The infrared heat is often used to treat clogged capillaries, heat increases the pores and capillaries to expel toxins from the body. We can tolerate and even enjoy infrared heat for longer periods than the heat of a hot tub or steam bath, therefore sweating from the heat infrared promotes the most beneficial for detoxification.

How infrared sauna possibly offer all these advantages?
During a 30-minute session, you can relax and enjoy the music, your whole body is working to generate sweat 2-3 times higher than in a traditional sauna. The infrared sauna therapy offers an in-depth heat in a more pleasant atmosphere, providing benefits greater health. Each session allows the body to detoxify, relieve muscle pain by increasing the circulation, burns fat, giving you a workout cardiovascular, reduce cellulite and skin regains shine.

With all benefits and amenity to assemble or install it, the sauna is “something” proper to present in our home. Relax our self, enjoy the sauna and let’s hope health and happiness would be with us.

Choosing the right windows and doors for your house

If you are currently building or renovating a home, than you know that there is a huge variety of window and door options out there. Windows and doors say a lot about a home. They are functional and need to perform well, yet they can also be statement pieces and express so much about who lives there. What you choose will depend on the functions you need, the style you love and the security you expect.
When you start researching your windows and doors always remember that the Australian building industry often refer to both windows and doors as ”windows”.

To help you find the right windows for your house, here is an outline of your choices and things to consider.
  • Awning Windows

Awning Windows were once popular in the 1920’s and 1950’s, but due to their unique design quality are seeing resurgence in new homes built in temperate climates, often constructed from attractive and durable aluminum. Awning Windows have a sash along the top of the window, and open from the bottom, creating an “awning” that allows air to circulate freely but doesn’t allow the rain in. Larger Awning Windows are often operated by a manual crank, whereas smaller windows, such as those used in smaller bathrooms, can be pushed open and pulled closed by hand.
  • Casement Windows

Casement Windows are an attractive and traditional window model that swing open like a door, but can be shut with an air-tight seal. They have a vertical, side-hung sash that allows the window to be opened inwards or outwards, inviting sea-breezes into your home. Aluminum Casement Windows provide some of the best thermal performance of any window type, and have very secure locking mechanisms. They are completely streamlined, and cranks are fold able to allow curtains and blinds to fall naturally. They allow for very large panes of glass, and are therefore perfect for homeowners with a view they want to showcase completely unobstructed.
  • Breezeway Louvre Windows

A unique style used exclusively in warmer climates, traditional Louvre (or Jalousie) Windows look beautiful in screened-in porches and sun rooms. The window is constructed with horizontal slats of glass, similar to venetian blinds yet wider. These can be opened, closed, or tilted depending on how much light and fresh air you want to let in. Aluminum Breezeway Louvre Windows are more versatile than their predecessors, and can be shut tight to keep harsh weather out. What’s more, they allow not only natural light and air into your room, but add a uniquely stylish touch that pulls together a contemporary look.
  • Double Hung Windows

Some looks are too good to ever go out of style, and aluminum Double Hung Windows look equally good on classic homes as they do brand new constructions. New Double Hung Windows offer a contemporary twist on an enduring classic; the beautiful, old fashioned look you want with the modern performance you expect. Also known as a sash window, Double Hung Windows are essentially two windows separated horizontally, and can be of different sizes and shapes (such as a semicircle atop a rectangle). They open from both the top and the bottom, and can feature a combination of large and small glass panes, customizable to your specifications.
  • Sliding Windows

Sliding Windows are now one of the most popular window options out there, and offer a contemporary look. Since they slide completely open, they offer a good air circulation in bedrooms, bathrooms and over kitchen sinks. They slide open and shut manually with ease, without using any additional space, which is perfect in rooms where there isn’t an inch to spare. Sliding Windows are very easy to clean as they can be lifted out of their casement from the inside, and their light aluminum construction makes the process of washing both sides of the glass quick and painless.
  • French Doors

French Doors are a classic choice that looks good in both modern and traditional home decor. They are essentially large aluminum Casement Windows that are used as doors, sometimes between adjacent rooms, and other times it is an attractive entrance to a garden or patio. Their charm lies in the fact that they let full light into the room, creating an open and breezy feel. Usually 2 doors are hung alongside one another, but a single door can also do the trick.
  •  Pivot Doors
Pivot Doors not only add architectural interest to your entryways, but they are extremely functional and last longer than traditional doors. These doors are hinge-less, which means less tension and friction, allowing for effortless opening and closing. The weight of the door is supported by the floor instead of a door frame, as pivots, instead of hinges, are placed on the floor and ceiling. This eliminates wear and tear on the door frame.
  • Bi-Fold Doors

Bi-Fold Doors are ideal in tight spaces, where there isn’t enough room for a door to swing open. Often Bi-Fold doors are a pair of doors divided vertically into 2 parts attached by a set of hinges. The doors run along a track on the floor, so to open a door the knob is gently pulled and the door “folds” open. These doors are excellent as closet doors, but work in a variety of ways.

Top Interior Decorating Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Here are some common mistakes that during designing the interior, ranging from the selection of furniture that does not fit (too big or vice versa), to the decorations that are too focused on the decorating trend curve. Please note that the trend decor is something to recur, choose the decor trends you like, make a plan, and follow your plan wisely. So you do not need to throw too much money on parts that do not actually need.

  • Choose Furniture That Doesn’t Fit
You wouldn’t wear clothes in a size that’s baggy or skin tight, so why would you choose furniture that doesn’t fit in your room?
Before you shop for furniture, whether you’re buying new or at a garage sale, measure your space, think about where you’re going to put the piece, and write down notes. Resist the temptation to buy a too-big sofa, thinking you can put it on an angle if it doesn’t fit. Write down the measurements an stick to it.
It’s just as bad to buy pieces that are too small, thinking you can add more pieces to fill the space. Plan out your arrangement, think it over, and then find the pieces that are just right.
  •  Use Too Many Patterns and Prints
Don’t pick up just any fabric or piece of furniture you like, thinking you can work around it. Plan your color scheme, select a main pattern, then find coordinating stripes, small prints, and plaids that enhance your choice.
Follow the Rule of 3: Select one main pattern, usually a large print. Then find one small, coordinating print and one stripe or plaid. Then call it quits. If you need another fabric, think about using a solid-colored texture or interesting weave instead of another pattern or print.
  •  Float a Rug in the Middle of the Room
The elements in a room should be connected, both visibly and physically. A rug on the floor adds color and a connection between pieces of furniture. The rug should be tucked under the front legs of chairs, sofas, and tables.
A rug placed in the middle of a room, unanchored, poses a safety hazard. It would be easy to trip on an edge or corner of the rug or slip and slide if the rug moves
  • Push All the Furniture Up Against the Wall
You may think that a room will look larger if the middle of the floor is open, without furniture. But the opposite is true. Unless you’re going to have a dancing party in the middle of your room, move the furniture into groupings in the center.
Arrange a sofa with a table behind it, away from the wall with a walking space behind. Show off the back of the sofa and arrange decorative items and a lamp for reading behind it. Move chairs out of corners and you’ll have a more open, airy look in your room.
  •   Put Out All Your Collectibles
Whether you collect knick knacks from travels like ash trays or salt and pepper shakers or fine pieces of sculpture or one-of-a-kind hand-blown glass, you shouldn’t put everything out at one time.
Do your best to select only the most important pieces, either in monetary or sentimental value, and get rid of the rest. If you can’t bear to throw the pieces away, put them away and rotate the items on display. Less really is more!
  •  Decorate With Family Heirlooms Whether You Like Them or Not
Just because your grandparents chose to decorate in Victorian style doesn’t mean that you have to. If you want to use something that was handed down, select one special piece and use it as an accent in your home. But get rid of the rest of the pieces that you don’t want. Your space should reflect who you are, not who the people are who went before you.
  •  Put Decorative Pillows Everywhere
You can buy pillows in every size, shape, color, and texture. But just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Pillows are great accessories to use to add interest and softness to a space, but they should be functional, not just decorative.
It’s almost a natural that you’d use a decorative pillow on a sofa or at the back of a deep chair. Several on the top of a bed would be logical too. But don’t place pillows on furniture that you have to take off to sit down or lie in bed. Make pillows decorative, soft, comfortable, and, above all, useful.
  •  Protect Your Furniture With Slipcovers
Slipcovers are wonderful for covering up worn fabric or patterns on fabric that are out of style or don’t go with your decor. But any slipcover should be decorative and add to the piece, not distract from it. The worst of the worst are clear vinyl slipcovers. You might be tempted to choose one to protect the beautiful silk fabric on your furniture. But they just look awful. There’s no question about it and you should avoid them at all costs.
If you must cover a piece of furniture, choose a slipcover in a color that resembles the upholstery you’re covering. Hopefully it will blend with the space and no one will really notice. Remove the cover whenever you have guests and replace it for everyday activity.
  • Hang All Your Artwork and Mirrors at the Same Height
You’ve probably heard the rule about hanging art at eye level. That’s all well and good, but people’s eyes are not at the same height. Think about it: a 6-foot person’s eyes are higher than those of someone sitting on a chair.
Please read previous post about How High to Hang Art that will guide you through the process of deciding where to hang pictures and mirrors so that they create a focal point on a wall and enhance the space instead of detract from it.
  • Use 100 Watt Bulbs in All Your Lamps and Light Fixtures
Of course you’ll want to have a good light for reading, but the other lights in your room should be selected for specific tasks or to create a mood.
Choose your lighting to match the function of the space. For the kitchen, you might want recessed lights or a small lamp in the corner of a counter. You’ll need a good lamp over your desk and maybe track lights over your computer and work space.
For total light control, install dimmers on all your wall light switches and on lamp cords.
  •  Choose Dining Room Chairs to Look Good, Not for Comfort
Not! A dining room is a place for people to gather, visit, and enjoy each other’s company. The dining chairs should fit comfortably around the table. But the most important thing they should be is inviting, giving guests no reason to get up and move out. Create a welcoming room and your dinner will be a time to remember.
  • Decorate With the Trend of the Day
Even if it doesn’t match your decor it’s fun to be up to date with trends and fads, but your home is not the place to be “au courant” every season. Decorating and furniture are expensive investments and you can’t expect to change colors and styles with the calendar.
Choose trends you really like and decide how you can get the look without spending a lot of money. There are ways to incorporate decorating trends into your decor without making a total change. You’ll save money but not be left behind the decorating curve.
Some, in fact most, rules are made to be broken. Choose the rules you’ll follow wisely. The things listed here are absolutely not to be done.

Natural Lighting With a Skylight

Skylights offer a number of benefits in that they can provide more lighting for your home, improve the ventilation, they look great if installed correctly, and they can help increase the value of the home. When choosing the right type of skylight, keep in mind that they should take up a minimum of 10% of the rooms total square footage.

However, before you start cutting holes, you want to check with your local building code to ensure you choose the right type of skylight to coordinate with ventilation and natural light requirements.
Prior to starting the process of installing your new skylight, you want to have the actual skylight with you along with the instructions from the manufacturer. This will provide you with the rough dimensions and specific steps for installation. To get started, the opening will need to be located and marked. With a saber or drywall saw, you will start by cutting out a two-foot square test hole in the ceiling where you want the center of the skylight to go.
Next, look around the ceiling and roof framing to determine the best place for the opening location and consider plumbing and electrical installations. Now you want to position and then mark the opening, which will help minimize the amount of framing and joists needing to be cut. Using the saw, you will cut the opening along the guideline. Remove the ceiling material and then install your temporary bracing. Then, you want to cut through the ceiling joists and framing according to the skylight opening.
To frame the opening, you will double the last uncut joist on either side of the ceiling opening and then install double headers going across the opening with the ends to the cut joists sitting perpendicular. Using lumber that is the same depth as the ceiling framing, you will nail the trimmer joists to the frame the same as the opening for the light shaft. With 12d nails, go through the metal framing ties to connect the joists securely. The next step involves locating and marking the roof opening. To do this, hang a plumb bob at the bottom edge of the roof rafters, going down to each corner of the opening in the ceiling. These corner locations will be transferred vertically to the rafters, taking these points to the underside of the roof, as a way of locating the rough opening that will be cut through the roof. Next, drive a pilot nail through the roof at each of the corners at your proposed opening. Keep in mind that you want the corners to fall within the skylight curb framing.
Now the roof opening will need to be cut and framed. Typically, prefabricated skylights already have the curb assembly mounted. With this, you would take the assembly to the roof along with pilot nails that will be used as guides. If you have an asphalt-shingled roof, simply take a utility knife and cut along your marked lines, and then remove the shingles. Next, with a circular saw, you would cut through the sheathing. For wood-shingles, you will cut through the shingles and the roof together, placing a board beneath the board to allow the saw to glide freely. Remember to save the shingles for later. The roof opening will be framed by doubling the rafters at the sides of the roof opening, as well as the ends of the cut rafters. Now, install the double headers going across the opening at both ends.
To install your skylight, you would need to follow the manufacturer’s instructions, making sure it has been secured temporarily while you test the position. If the skylight is misaligned, not only would it be noticeable from the inside but it would also create risks for future leaks. With a level, you want to check the sill and then measure the diagonals to ensure the corners are square. Once done, the brackets will be screwed into the roof over a layer of building paper. To flash the curb and repair the roof, you will install an aluminum sill, head, and step flashing. Make sure you interweave the flashing and replacement shingles, as you move ahead. Then, apply roofing compound under the flashing and shingles.
Finally, the shaft will be framed and the interior finished. You want the side of the shaft to be framed using 2×6s and then with an adjustable bevel gauge, mark, cut, and install the framing. The walls will now be insulated with R-19 fiberglass batts by stapling a 6-mil polyethylene vapor barrier on the inside sides. The shaft will be finished and then the joists taped with drywall tape and joint compound. Use 100-grit sandpaper or drywall sanding mesh to help smooth the joint compound and then apply the finish paint. The last step is to install wood molding, as a means of hiding the joint found between the drywall and skylight.

Basement Cozy Bar Ideas

Creating family entertainment space, how to convert a basement or extra room in your home into a wet bar and how to choose a theme.
Whether you’re entertaining a spouse, children or friends, a wet bar is a natural way to incorporate food, drink and fun to an environment. Basement wet bars consist of a few basic elements: the bar top, seating, displays and storing facilities. When you’ve combined the right bar top, seating, display case and refrigerator or handy kitchen aids to prepare drinks or light treats, your guests will surely be impressed with how you turned a drab space into a wonderful wet bar. This article will explore a few ideas for each element in your wet bar as well as ideas for an overall theme.
First, let’s discuss the elements of the wet bar and possible ideas..
  • The bar top: Your bar surface can be wood, tile, stone or and variety of similar kitchen countertops. Often wet bars come straight, in an “L” shape or semi-circular. You’ll want to make sure that the wet bar doesn’t overpower the entire room, but provides enough space for putting drinks, sitting and basic entertaining. With the bar top, you’ll also want to consider if you’re going to have a draft fountain attached, sinks or various other appliances that would be taking up space of the general seating area.
  • Seating: The seating can be a bit tricky. You’ll want to be considering if the seats should move, swivel, and/or have footrests attached to them or will that be attached to the bar itself. You’ll want to consider if you prefer bar stools or bar chairs meaning a seat with a back, arm rest or just a simple stool. Since most of your guests may want to sit at the bar will drinking or chatting, you’ll want to make sure that they are comfortable.
  • Displays: Consider where you’re going to place all the serving ware and if it’s underneath the bar or behind the bar. You’ll want to have everything readily accessible for using, but not cluttering the overall look of your bar when it’s not in use. Some other ideas are having a mirror behind the bar, or framed photos or signs.
  • Storing Facilities: This references a mini-refrigerator/freezer or wine cooler or even a mini-dishwasher for glassware. You’re going to want to consider all the blenders, and mixing items you’ll need when preparing drinks. If you know you’ll be entertaining a lot, you’ll probably consider larger appliances for storing than maybe a wet bar that would be entirely for snacking or catering to children during playtime. You’ll want to make sure that the children have access to water, soda and non-alcoholic beverages while the items not necessary for children are locked away when the wet bar isn’t in use.
Overall, creating a theme for your wet bar can help you choose the elements. For example, if you were wanting to do a fifties style wet bar, you’d consider a root beer fountain for the children and mini-cooler for storing ice cream and other treats, black/white checked bar stools with stainless steel countertops and decor larger than life resound of the 50s era. While on the other hand, if you want a wet bar that is contemporary and chic, you’d probably choose items that are bold, clean, and bright. If you want a western wet bar, you’d probably choose an entirely wood bar with wood bar chairs and branded display wall which also suits as cabinets for storing mugs and other items.
