Writing Tables Galore.

I love writing tables. I also love desks, but there is something about writing tables or library tables that I just plain love. They are simple and unassuming. You can have a traditional one, or a modern glass topped one. The one that I have is very shallow and works really well for me because I live in a shoebox of an apartment.

I hate tables with fabric over them but this is by Miles Redd, so I'll let it slide. This time. Anyway, this is a really interesting place for a desk or work area; at the end of the bed.

Joe Nye sucked me in with his glam hot animal prints and the light mocha color of the walls but the writing table by the window is gorgeous too.

I think an upright desk or secretary is wonderful. There is room for a lot of storage, and they are beautiful in their form--if you have a nice looking one. The writing table leaves most things out in the open so I think the simpler the better. I probably have too many objects and notepads on mine, but I don't have much room for storage period so BACK OFF. Anyway, which do you prefer? Desk or writing table?

Fleur de Lis Love

I have always loved the fleur de lis. There is something very old and romantic yet whimsical that comes to mind whenever I see one. One of my favorite necklaces is a little gold charm of the Florentine fleur de lis that I got during my semester abroad in Florence in college. The motif comes in many forms: fabric patterns, charms, knobs, wallpaper, etc. It could be a very sweet classic design motif, I think. Here are some examples below.

I found this amazing chest on 1st Dibs from Melissa Levinson. I love this because it is the Italian fleur de lis with the two small extra flowers on either side!

Lets Talk About It: Ship Chandelier Edition.

I've been seeing these crystal ship chandeliers pretty much everywhere. At first they were a little bit too glitzy to me but I think they can add a little sweet delicacy to a room. They are nautical, which I love, but they have a little sparkle to them to add a whimsical feeling.

Alessandra Branca put this vintage one over a dining table in a beach house. I think this adds a lighter feeling over this otherwise heavy table and chairs.

So what do we think? Am I jumping on this too fast? I can back out at any time...

Nailed it!

One of many emerging trends this fall is nail head trim. Nail heads are used as a decorative tool on lots of pieces of furniture including ottomans, chairs, even headboards. Says Kate Mulhearn of West Elm, "Nailhead detail is a classic design that mixes very well with modern looks." I concur, Kate. Above is a beautiful wing chair that is part of Victoria Hagan's home collection.

Circles, so hot right now

In a search for some nice looking mirrors I came across a trend. I noticed a growing amount of mirrors with circles, which is also a trend in furniture too, and the clover motif. I think that some of the simple round mirrors are my favorite. Circles are classic. The clover reminds me of my fave jewelry right now from Van Cleef and Arpels. Below are some of my picks.

Zebra. In or Out?

It seems to me that there is a bit of confusion about the trend of Animal prints. Are they in? Are they out? Or are they timeless like pearls and a popped collar? Here are some examples from interior design and fashion. Looks like zebra is SO HOT RIGHT NOW. What do you think?

I just found this article in Real Simple about how animal prints will always be coming back. They say go for the most authentic looking ones; ie. black and white, not loud colors such as above.
