My Goodwill score

Now I have to admit I almost NEVER find anything in our local Goodwill store that makes me swoon. EXCEPT today.  I was with my 2 youngest at the Dollar Store (cuz thats how we roll) and decided to pop in the Goodwill store next door.  When I walked up to this baby I knew it had to be mine! and the $50 price tag didn't hurt either!  (Thats a good garage sale price!) Here she is:  *sigh*

Its made by Bassett furniture- dovetail drawers-georgous pulls! Yum!


I cant wait to get to sanding on this one!  I am loving the Restoration Hardware washed wood look lately.  Its got that great rustic-chic look with a Swedish influence .  Here are some of my inspiration photos:

Ottoman makeover

A few weeks back a found this HUGE round ottoman at a yard sale for $10. I hesitated buying it because I was afraid the big "R" word- Reupholster. Now, I've done little chair seats and I've re-covered pillows, but a full on reupholster...it just gives me the hives. But I did it. I first tried ripping it apart to get a pattern- well this thing is made soooo well there is no taking it apart. Fine I said I'll just reupholster right on top of ya! take that!. It took about 3 yards of fabric, 3 yards of trim, 2 packets of upholstery tacks and a handy dandy electric staple gun.

$800 rug for faa-reeee

Yep I got an $800 8 X 11 area rug-freeeeeeeeeeeeee. well, I did have to sell my old rug- but it was an even wash. So this is how the story unfolds...... I had this very Traditional/Oriental rug that did not match my current decor. I listed it on our local Classifieds. I then found the perfect rug on this very same website -listed for $180. It sells for over $800 at Home Decorators Collection- here is the picture. I was quite excited to find how much it cost originally, then I quickly realized why is was only $180. There is a nice large PINK stain on it. As I sat there and looked at this "perfect for my room" rug-I thought to myself "I can get this out" and if I cant- well, I'll just put a piece of furniture over it! So I asked the lady if she would take $100 for it and she said "yes" !!! woo-hoo!! I practically ran to my car with that baby. Then that very afternoon a gentleman came by and purchased my old rug for exactly $100!! so I basically did a rug swap! I have not been able to get the stain out as of yet. She said it was candy that the kids left. If you have any great stain busting tips please share. I have tried OxyClean, Wool Light pet stain, and Bissel Stain remover-all to no avail. So the coffee table currently sorta covers it up, kinda. But hey for faaa-reee I am not going to complain! Here is a picture and that cute little round table you see there- $10 baby!!! its in need of some TLC but I LOVE LOVE the lines and the top has this great leather inset.



So the moral of this story- dont be afraid to ask for a lower price! they just might say "yes"!

Garage Sale score!!

I hit another amazing Community garage sale this weekend. Scored on this huge black and tan indoor/outdoor rug that I currently put in my dining room. $15 dollars

Pink chalkboard paint

I found this cutie-patootie- pink chalkboard paint at Michaels the other day.


I turned this $5 garage sale mirror into a chalkboard for my daughters room.

I really didn't want to paint over the mirror- so I removed it and turned it to the backside and painted over that. If I ever decide I want the mirror again, I can just switch it back!

Yet another garage sale.....

So this weekend I decided to venture out......as in over 60 miles from my home! I know, I know, the yard sale rules....stay close to home. I had my reasons, one being there were NO good sales near me. This one was a community wide sale with over 50 homes participating (which I found to be a little over exaggerated) So off I went. The sale was posted as a start time of 9am- which is LATE for those of you who "know" how to shop. So I got there at 7am and let me tell you- I now wish I had been there at 6:30- there were trucks already laden with "stuff", people scurrying about-madness I tell ya! But I did manage to find some deals-no furniture-which was my may reason for going-but still some fun stuff.

The off white wrought iron piece will be spray painted black and put in my newly painted living room (which I STILL haven't posted before & afters yet *sigh* I'll get to it)

This amazing $5 chocolate brown wool rug- fit perfectly in my bedroom-of course I still need to vacuum it.


These great locker room baskets (which I see everywhere now). She wanted $1 a piece-they were stuck together with a melted candle- so she said "ok-how about $5 for the whole lot" Yep 12 baskets for $5!!!




This lamp-which does NOT need spray paint or new shades- its perfect AS IS-was $5 and looks cute in my daughters room.

Thrifty Treasures

My dear friend from WeareTHATFamily and I headed out again this Saturday for some garage sale therapy. It is getting to the point were we can't sleep the night before due to the excitement of what we might find. And this Saturday did not disappoint. I found this nice wrought iron & wood wall hanger for $1.



Two of the hooks are broken-but I think I can replace it- or just leave it as is-once the wood is painted black I think it will look great.

I got these great picture frames for $1 and will use them as is (with a coat of spray paint of course) or I will make chalk boards out of them. The oval scroll mirror was $3 (which I asked for $2 but they said no-it doesnt hurt to ask!).


And my FAVORITE find of the day was this mirror-for $15! Its HUGE and HEAVY- I plan on painting it black and hanging it above a small black table I have on the landing of my stairs (befores and afters will be posted, of course!).

Yet another garage sale find!!

It time again for Rhoda's Thrifty Treasures over at Southern Hospitality
This Saturday was another huge community garage sale in a neighboring town. I LOVE these community sales because you can hit so many houses in a such a short time. I found this faux stone picture that I KNEW would be a perfect chalk board for only $2. I forgot to take a before picture- so here it is when I started spray painting it.

And here is the after-

I looks perfect hanging in my laundry room. The black hanger is an old brass door knob that I pray painted black. But the DEAL OF THE DAY- was this amazing antique dresser! for $40!!!! I jumped for joy when I saw this. My in real life friend Kristen from WeareTHATFamily was with me- and she was just as excited as I was -and told me I HAD to buy it.






and I am so glad I did. I cleaned it up with some Murphy's oil and put it in my living room. I first thought I would paint it-but have since decided against it. I love the different woods and all the character that it has- it even smells antique!
I am now officially hooked on garage sales and can hardly wait till next Saturday. Do they have a 10-step program for garage-sale junkies?

Garage Sale Finds

My newest obsession: garage sales on Saturdays! I have now been the past 3 Saturdays and have found some great finds each time I go. Rhoda at Southern Hospitality is hosting another Today's Thrifty Treasures. Here's what I scored over the weekend. This cute little bird statue (that of course will get some spray paint loving)for .50 cents and this great urn with greenery ($1)-not sure if I will keep the greenery in it or not- but I WILL be spray painting this one.



But the deal of the day was this great SOLID wood night stand- it had a $10 price on it but I got it for $8.


Its going to go in my guest bedroom- I plan on repainting it maybe a nice creamy cottage white color and adding some fun knobs. My current project Im working on is spray painting my dining room chandelier. Its this lovely (insert sarcasm here) brass. I found this stone-like spray paint at Lowes in a great bronzy/brown shade- it matches the curtain hardware perfectly.

The $5 lamp

Rhoda at Southern Hospitality is hosting a garage/yard sale finds. I have to admit I have not garage sailed (is that even a word? it looks funny-I didnt float a garage at sea) in years but thought I'd try it again. and what do you know! I LOVE it! I found this lamp on Saturday- it was marked $2 but since it was for a Kids Summer Camp I paid $5- still well worth it. This lamp screamed spray paint me! spray paint me! and so I did. Here it is in its new home in my dining room. But dont look too close- I bombed on the shade! I thought I was sooooo thrifty & crafty I said to self "I can paint that shade too" ummm no go- It looks great when the light is off- but when its on- you can see ALL my spray marks *le sigh* so I am on the hunt for a nice black shade. Unless any of your crafty gals out there have some ideas of what I could do. I event tried painting the inside of the shade with gold- yeah it made it worse.
