And On The 7th Day........

We rested . Well, what I mean by rested is I did no garden work at all, I strolled around and picked a few pansies, some epimedium and one fat white camellia bloom.  Meanwhile GG mowed the lawn.

We grocery shopped, read the Times, bought a stack of amethyst and iris towels, apparently purple really is the new red for us. And as I sit writing this GG is hanging new blinds in the loo.

Tomorrow will be 74 degrees.  Unfortunately I offered to work tomorrow.  We have a house to decorate in
a Fragonard-ish style plus the party on Tuesday.  As soon as I heard the weather report I cursed my control freak ways.

My pre school report card read that I was so busy making sure everyone got their work done I had no time to do my own.  I've apparently turned that into a career plus.

Speaking of cursing , a pretty steady stream of them is coming from our bathroom right now.  I best be off to offer some unsolicited help.

May you all have a warm and sunny Monday.

Questions

Ok, so I just finished reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I hadn't planned to read it, I'm not a big NY Times bestseller list reader, even though several of my friends had loved it.

Then, a friend gave it to me to read. And I finished it in a puddle of tears. I'm the same person who never saw Titanic because I hate to weep on cue. But I'm all for life affirming tales and this was one. Has anyone out there read it? What did you think?

On an entirely different note, I'm jonesing for curried vegetables. Guess it's the seasons changing, but I want to see a big bowl of beautifully colored and seasoned vegetables on the table. Does anyone have a good recipe for me to use? Do I want them with coconut milk added? I prefer to make my own curry powder but if there is a good ready made one out there I'll try it.

Enough questions, you all have your own dinners to prepare and books to write, I mean read.

But one more thing ( blog advice I've read: stick to one topic) a surprise from the garden today. One perfect iris. September, yesterday's temps 94degrees and I have one perfect iris open and more buds to go. La dolce vita. No?

quel dommage!

what you don't want to hear, when you're standing in your packed mud room, being stabbed by an agave as you reach for a platter, is the sound of an almost fully decorated tree starting to fall over. no, you don't. especially when there are 9 people and a dog between you and tinkling tree, and the tree, remember, is in a large vase filled with water and stones. are these run on sentences? tree was caught and saved, vase thrown out, stones collected, floor mopped up and up and up. Tini raced across street and returned with a ginormous tree stand, i hate tree stands but had to be grateful for this one. otherwise tannenbaum was going in an old dirty plaster bucket. decorating continued with more than a touch of hysterical gaiety. ornaments continued to be broken, beers knocked over, and our same 10 really bad christmas songs continued to play in the back ground.
now i must go sweep and hoover, again.
