NEC announced today that together with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) for the joint field trials as a power storage system with the performing NEC lithium-ion battery. EPRI is an independent, nonprofit organization, research and development associated with the production, supply and use of electricity for the public heads. Initial tests at the EPRI Knoxville, Tennessee, lab with an integrated Lithium-Ion Battery NEC system operational performance and functionality for the U.S. grid compliance are carried out.In the first phase of the test a 25 kW system from NEC EPRI as a first step towards the future Smart Grid applications will be tested. Follow-up could be 1 MW electricity demonstration of larger systems as part of a possible EPRI – U.S. utility industry research collaboration.
