LG Fathom Verizon Wireless

Despite the upcoming release of Windows 7 phone, Microsoft, no signs of stopping the development of Windows Mobile 6.5 devices. The latest phone to join the Windows Mobile family is to find out about the LG. The Fathom is compatible with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and is one of the few smart phones with Verizon Wireless dual-mode GSM / CDMA chipsets. This means you can slip an international SIM card and use it during a trip abroad. Although we are not impressed with resistive touch screen display, Fathom has a slider QWERTY keyboard and a lot of other cool smart phone features that may tide you over, while you wait for Windows 7 on a phone. The LG Fathom is available for $ 149.99 with a two-year contract and after a $ 100 mail-in rebate.Dominating the Fathom the front is a 3.2-inch resistive touch screen with a 800×480 pixel WVGA resolution. We are disappointed that LG choose not to provide a capacitive screen to show understanding with the resistive screen is not as smooth and easy to react, as we want. However, you can help by setting a wizard to improve the accuracy of your taps and a resistive display is allowed for a pin.The display looks very good. It shows a clear and colorful graphics and text is clear and legible as well. You can change the background lighting, and there is a built-in accelerometer so the screen orientation changes when turning the phone. They have also disable the option, the accelerometer. Because it is a Windows Mobile 6.5 is mobile, you get the simplified Start screen and honeycomb-style menu and you can also carry information system on the top tab through open applications. Unlike the LG Expo, you will not get a custom LG S-class interface, but only the standard Windows Mobile 6.5 interface for the most part. A special feature is the gesture to block link interface area on the standby screen. You can simply “draw” a certain letter and Fathom, the appropriate application starts automatically. For example, if I sign the letter, Internet Explorer will open, and if you pull the letter N to open the Notes application. This works as a quick shortcut, but we wanted more control over what we had mapped gestures applications.Below the display are the Talk, Main and End keys. The 3.5 mm headphone jack, volume rocker and charger jack on the left spine and the microSD card slot, Task Manager button and the camera button on the right. At the top of the phone is the Power / Lock button. On the back is the camera lens with a slot for a removable pin. If you scroll the screen to the right, shows a full QWERTY keyboard. The sliding mechanism feels very smooth, and we want it clicks into place. The keyboard has four rows, so that you get a special number series, along with standard function keys, and icon. We are pleased with the large space bar in the middle, and the special hot key messages. The keys feel very spacious and we want everyone of them is raised above the surface. On the right side of the keyboard switch is a square plus a hands-free navigation button and a back button. Our only complaint about the keyboard is that we wish there was a dedicated period key.
