The Australian Ballet - Madame Butterfly

photo -behind ballet blog

Earlier in the year for my birthday I was given a ticket to see Madame Butterfly by the Australian Ballet.

Yesterday I attended the matinee and was delighted to walk in to the Festival Theatre and see a beautifully dressed enthusiastic audience in the foyer. Lots of lovely aspiring young dancers!

The performance started with clever lighting and a dramactic set and from beginning to end I was glued to the stage.
Wonderful music by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, beautiful costumes, brilliant sets and or course some of the most amazing dancing you will ever see.

The technique and artistic quality that the dancers of the Australian Ballet is second to none and makes the company in my opinion the best in the world.

Cast- Saturday 19 March 1.30pm
Conductor: Kenneth Young
Butterfly: Kirsty Martin
Pinkerton: Rudy Hawkes
Suzuki: Laura Tong
Sharpless: Andrew Killian
Goro: Yosvani Ramos
Kate: Juliet Burnett

I would like to make special mention of Principal Kirsty Martin - Butterfly who stole the show. The most graceful, yet powerful dancer with impeccable technique and beautiful lines. I was so drawn in to her performance that the ending bought me to tears.

To anyone ballet lover or not who has not been to the ballet in a while, I urge you to go and see The Australian Ballet. How lucky we are to have one of the best companies in the world right here in Australia!

And just in case you didn't know The Australian Ballet has its own blog!
